‘IKE’ JUST A GI LOOKING FOR MAIL, SAYS MRS. EISENHOWER

From the July 11, 1944 Edition of Stars and Stripes

FORT BENNING, Ga., July 10 (AP)–Gen. Eisenhower’s moral, says Mrs. Eisenhower, is “no different from that of a GI. He keeps his ear cocked for the mail call, too.”

The wife of the Supreme Allied Commander came to Fort Benning today with her son, 2/Lt. John Eisenhower, who has been assigned to a special basic officers’ course at this infantry school.

The war-time life of an army wife, she said, was “very disconcerting. it is no different for a wife of a general than for the wife of a private.”
