NAZI BOOBY-TRAP HIDES THERMITE IN CANDY BAR

From the July 15, 1944 Edition of Stars and Stripes

WASHINGTON, July 14 (AP)–Army authorities told today of a new and diabolical booby-trap being used by the Germans–candy with a piece of thermite buried in the center. When eaten, the candy melts away and the thermite flares up in the mouth and throat.

The Germans also are exploiting the Allies troops’ desire for cleanliness in devising other traps. Army experts said. Liquid-soap dispensers are filled with sulphuric acid, and another gadget is an innocent-looking cake of soap which can be used for some time, but when the outer coating is worn away, it explodes and is strong enough to blow off both hands.
