UNIFORMS FOR NAZIS MADE BY THE WAR DEPARTMENT

Dear YANK:

During the cold weather I read in the Stars and Stripes that all frontline soldiers would receive “arctic tested” clothing. No such clothing came. I was shocked when I read this article in a current newspaper:

“Somewhere in the United States a company manufactures German Army uniforms for the War Department. They are for Nazi officers who are prisoners of war. The firm is afraid that its regular customers might not approve and does not encourage publicity.”

Is this the reason we could not get warm combat clothes during the cold weather? Are the making of Nazi uniforms more important than keeping the American soldier warm?

Does the War Department consider us GI, general issue, like a piece of machinery while the Nazi is a person, a human being? Ever hear of any company in Germany manufacturing U.S. Army clothing for the Nazi War Department?

Is this the backing we receive in our fight for things we hold so dear in our hearts?

What is troubling about an article like this one is that it does not tell the full story but relates what seems to be a disgruntled “grunt” who was denied something he wanted.
