Days of Glory, The Story of a French Colonial Soldier:

Set in wartime Italy, Days of Glory tells the little known story of the French Colonial Algerian soldiers and their part in the war against Nazi Germany. The movie follows the story of Said, a Berber goat herder who joins the 7th Algerian Tirailleur Regiment and fights in Italy and France. During the course of the war, Said, and other colonial troops find that beyond the French wartime patriotic rhetoric was the reality that Colonial troops were mainly used as cannon fodder by the French military and then forgotten about once the war was won.

The 2006 film was directed by Rachid Bouchareb and includes a cast of Sami Bouajila, Jamel Debbouze, Samy Naceri, Roschdy Zem, Mélanie Laurent and Bernard Blancan. The movie explores the dynamic of colonialism, prejudice and racism during the Second World War, while providing an interesting insight into the life and experiences of French colonial soldiers. The cast of Days of Glory won the Best Actor award at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign language film.
